Give Me Your Eyes
Brandon Heath, Jason Ingram

"I wrote a lot of songs for this new record. 'Give Me Your Eyes' was one of the first that really stuck out. I co-wrote it with Jason Ingram, and musically, it has a hip-hop flavor to it. The song was inspired from the idea that every once in a while, God gives us His eyes. You tend to see a lot of different kinds of people in places like airports. Sometimes, usually only for a few moments, I feel like God gives me true compassion for those people around me. I think that the longer I get to know the character of Jesus, the more compassion I personally have for others. 'Give Me Your Eyes' is saying; 'Jesus give me your eyes so that I can see people the way you see people, so I can love people the way you love people.' One of the core goals of my ministry is focused on striking up conversations about social injustices around the world and being a voice for those who have often been silenced by poverty or lack of influence. I want to challenge people more. 'Give Me Your Eyes' does that. It is one thing to have compassion and quite another to act on it. Most times, it starts with the people around you."

Look down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight

Touch down on the cold black top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos

All those people going somewhere
Why have I never cared

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me you heart for the ones forgotten
Give me your eyes so I can see

Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what's underneath

There's a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He's out of work, He's buying time

Pre Chorus / Chorus

I've been here a million times
A couple of million eyes
Just move and pass me by
I swear I never thought that I was wrong
I need a second glance
Give me a second chance
To see the way you've seen the people all along

Chorus

Wait and See
Brandon Heath

"'Wait and See' is probably the most autobiographical song I've ever written. But I think that anybody can relate to this song, and be encouraged to know that God has a plan for us, even if we still feel like a failure at times. If we come to know Jesus as our Savior, He is going to change our hearts and lead us into a greater existence other than for ourselves. For me, the last verse of 'Wait and See' is really what my journey is all about, 'now's my time to be a man, follow my heart as far as I can, no telling where I'm ending up tonight.' Most nights, I am in a hotel room and I barely know where I am, but I know that I'm doing what I am supposed to be doing. I just have to wait and see what God is going to do with the rest of the story. I'm encouraged by what He has done already, but I know that the story will continue to unfold and I'll keep learning more about the purpose of my life."

I was born in Tennessee
Late July humidity
Doctor said I was lucky to be alive

I've been trouble since the day that I got here
Trouble till the day that I disappear
That'll be the day that I finally get it right

There is hope for me yet
Because God won't forget
All the plans he's made for me
I have to wait and see
He's not finished with me yet

I never really was that good in school
I talked too much, broke the rules
Teacher thought I was hopeless fool alright

I don't know how but I made it through
It's one of those things that you've gotta do
But I always had a knack for telling the truth

Chorus

Still wondering why I'm here
Still wrestling with my fear
But oh, He's up to something
And the farther on I go
I've seen enough to know
That I'm, not here for nothing
He's up to something

So now's my time to be a man
Follow my heart as far as I can
No telling where I'm ending up tonight
I never slow down or so it seems
But singing my heart it's one of my dreams
All I gotta do is hold on tight

Chorus

Trust You
Brandon Heath, Jason Ingram, Chad Cates

"'Trust You' is about the personal inner struggle that happens when we hold on to whatever it is that doesn't allow us to seek after God. I think that trust has a lot to do with love. And I don't think that you can really love someone unless you trust them. Ultimately, I don't know that I would have the courage or strength to do half of what I do without the trust I've developed with God. He's shown me through countless situations that I have no reason not to trust that He will keep me safe. I think it starts with being stripped and broken in His presence. This song is all about that process."

I can't walk without watching where I'm going
I can't speak without knowing what to say
I can't love and have any hesitation
Cause I know that you don't work that way

I can't reach without something to offer
I can't come now I am so ashamed
I can't hold out from you any longer
Cause I know that you don't work that way

I'm not gonna fight you anymore
Not gonna try to lock the door
You took your life and gave me yours
There's no reason why
I shouldn't trust you with mine

It's never easy changing my direction
It's so unnatural to loosen up my grip
Are you growing weary of all my good intentions
Cause I know that You don't work that way

Chorus

Somedays
This wait upon my shoulder
Is my shame
I know I should know better
Cause you say
That I must now surrender
There's no other way

London
Brandon Heath, Chad Cates

"'London' is one of a few love songs on this record, and one of the oldest songs. I actually had it before I even signed a record deal. I wrote it with Chad Cates and honestly the song was inspired by him missing his wife while he was in London. London didn't quite meet his expectations, simply because he experienced it alone. I know for me sometimes when I'm in a cool town or see a beautiful vista, I think, 'man this is when it would be nice to have someone to share this with.' That's why I connect with this song. It definitely comes out of my own experiences too. I think we've all been there. It's one of my favorite songs that I've ever written... period."

My train pulled in to Waterloo
I found myself wishing you
Were here with me in London
Standing on the river Thames
Taking photographs of Parliament
And old Big Ben was ringing

You know it's everything that I imagined it would be
I had no idea that it would feel this empty

Where are you tonight
While I stand here and cry
Watching double-decker buses pass me by
And to tell you the truth
It's all that I can do
To keep from jumping a plane that's headed home
To you

I took a stroll down Abbey Road
Tried to peak inside the studio's
And somewhere along the way I bought you flowers
And a pocket map of the Underground
Cause You and I both know I get turned around
I'm so lost without you

Though it's everything that I imagined it would be
I had no idea that it would feel this empty

Chorus

6 long nights and seven days I'll cross the pond back to the states
I can't wait

Where are you tonight while I stand here and cry
Watching all the black umbrellas pass me by
And to tell you the truth it's all that I can do
To keep from jumping on a plane headed home
So I'm jumping on a plane headed home to you

Sunrise
Brandon Heath, Dan Muckala, Nate Campany

"Do you ever have those nights when you can't sleep because of the things on your mind? All the stress that comes with making decisions or from just being alone can sometimes keep your head spinning all through the night. 'Sunrise,' co-written with Nate Campany and my producer, Dan Muckala, is about longing for a little resolution. The darkness and the unknown can kind of overwhelm me sometimes. I wanted to capture a moment of desperation but also of hope -a sense of being on the brink of recovery. Sonically, it was inspired by a lot of the Western movies that I had been watching over the Fall of '07."

You wanna sound off but you can't find the words to
Nothin' makes sense in the way that it used to
Can't find the plus in the positive thinking
The well's run dry and you're not done drinking

Clouds start comin' and the sky will fall
Clock stares back from the bedroom wall
Now you're breathin' just to make it through the night

All you need is a sunrise
Just a moment of dawn
If you're lost in the twilight
Close your eyes and move on
When you're tired in the waiting
Even though it's gonna take you
A little more time
Just a little more time the sun's gonna find you

Holding your days like a stack of paper
Then you're chasing the wind as the pages scatter
You can save a few but you can't get 'em all back
So get out fast with your heart in tact

Find yourself on the very edge
Lying awake in an empty bed
Now you're breathin' just to make it thru the night

Chorus

Sore Eyes
Brandon Heath, Dan Haseltine, Charlie Lowell, Stephen Mason, Matt Odmark

"'Sore Eyes' is all about wanting to cheer up a girl. I mean, any guy loves the challenge of making a girl who is sad laugh, and to be her knight in shining armor. The thrill of this song is honestly that I wrote it with the guys in Jars of Clay. Jars of Clay's debut album was the first Christian record that I owned, and I wore it out. I'm so thankful that they have become my friends, but I was really nervous going into write the first time with them, because we hadn't yet done anything creative together. They're gracious guys, but when you bring your A-game to the table, you hope that it matches up to what they do. I think the guys would agree that this song came very easily, and we had a great time writing it. The whole band joined in on this one too, including Jeremy Lutito and Gabe Ruschival."

Your down all the way down
Can't shake the feeling

I know you know that I know
You got your reasons

Sore eyes what's up with that face
Maybe well trace these lines
Back to fine
I'm sure
You've been here before
Sore eyes
Such a sight to see
If I can bring that light
Back to your eyes to stay
What would you say
What do you say

Love Never Fails
Brandon Heath, Chad Cates

"'Love Never Fails' is all about 1 Corinthians 13. I know that audiences have heard this verse many, many times. But the truth is, "love never fails" is probably the most powerful line in the Bible. That's what we are supposed to do as far as following Jesus and loving the Lord with all of our heart, mind and strength, but also loving our neighbor. We have to know that real love won't fail us. If anything, 1 Corinthians 13 tells us how to love well."

Love is not proud
Love does not boast
Love after all
Matters the most

Love does not run
Love does not hide
Love does not keep
Locked inside

Love is the river that flows through
Love never fails you

Love will sustain
Love will provide
Love will not cease
At the end of time

Love will protect
Love always hopes
Love still believes
When you don't

Love is the arms that are holding you
Love never fails you

When my heart won't make a sound
When I can't turn back around
When the sky is falling down
Nothing is greater than this
Greater than this

Love is right here
Love is alive
Love is the way
The truth the life

Love is the river than flows through
Love is the arms that are holding you
Love is the place you will fly to
Love never fails you

Listen Up
Brandon Heath, Jason Ingram

"Coming from a guy like me who is trying to figure out relationships, 'Listen Up' is lyrically about the classic struggle of guys understanding girls. And as a single guy, I know that there are so many single guys out there like me who just can't relate to love songs. But I hope 'Listen Up' will be a song that guys will hear and be able to say, 'Oh man, I've totally been there when I've said the wrong thing or stuck my foot in my mouth.' I think sometimes, girls just need us to listen."

Why are you crying
Did I say something wrong
Were'nt we just talking
Tell me whats going on

Cause I'm pretty sure my intentions
Were nothing more than conversation
Maybe you just needed someone
To listen to your heart

Maybe I spoke too soon
Maybe I said too much
Now that my face is blue
Think it's time I listen up
I've already said enough

Sometimes I do this
Thing is I'm so afraid
When it get's quiet
What you might have to say

Cause I'm guilty of
Overcompensation
I'm lost in my
Own translation
I apologize, I know I
Should listen to your heart

Chorus

There isn't anything that I could say
Not a word to get in the way
Of you, Of You, I am listening

Chorus

Fight Another Day
Jess Cates, Brandon Heath, Dan Muckala

"'Fight Another Day' is a great up-tempo song about the fact that we all struggle and there are just some days worse than others. But the great thing is that God gives us a fighting chance and we are going to live to fight another day. To me, 'Fight Another Day' is an especially fun song because I brought in two of my crazy friends, Matt Wertz and Dave Barnes, to do background vocals. This is a picture of me and my friends having a great time recording a song together. Listen towards the end of the song for our wacky adlibs. I hope this is one people will sing along to."

It's an uphill climb
But it's all you know
So you spin your wheels
And dig your heels and down you go

So predictable
But it's not your fault
How can you expect to do your best
When you're scared to fall

Cause the pain is real
But you will survive
That's how you know you're alive

Cause it's Okay Now, Hey Now
You can let go
That's when you
Find out, Find out
Everybody knows
That there just
Aint no, Aint no
Easier way out
I know it might not look that way
But You're gonna live to fight another day

There's a place I know
Outside of town
Let's get out of here
Where all our fears don't hang around

Here's another chance
Take it while you can
Cause it sure wont last
Moves so fast
And it's gone again

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

You wonder what you are made
I'm telling you now
You're gonna make somehow
What are you so afraid of

When I'm Alone
Brandon Heath, Nate Campany

"I felt like this was an important song to put on the record, because it talks about what it's like to be alone. It's an honest look at the thoughts and fears that I have sometimes when I've been on my own for too long. I've never really been afraid to be honest with listeners and I think it's created a bond between us. They know they are getting the real deal when they listen to my music, so I hope this song continues that relationship. I don't think this excludes anyone. Even married people feel alone sometimes. That's when our fears of abandonment and isolation come in to play. I think at our core, we just want to know we belong. 'When I'm Alone,' is an honest look at insecurity."

When I'm alone
The faces they come and they go
They all say that I haven't changed
I wish I could stay
But be where you are
The countrys and citys so far
This is my job and my gift
But sometimes I get

Scared
That somehow I'll cease to belong
Anywhere
So I need you when it all starts to show
When I'm alone

When I'm alone
I sleep late it's crazy I know
The worlds only passing me by
I guess that is why
I'm telling you now
That I haven't figured it out
The depth of the things that I've missed
They leave me like this

Scared
That somehow I'll cease to belong
Anywhere
So I need you when it all starts to show
When I'm alone

Is it true that you can find me anytime
Cause I'm feeling like I'm there, it's about that time

And I'm scared
That somehow I'll cease to belong
Anywhere
So I need you when it all starts to show
When I'm alone

No, Not One
Brandon Heath, Christy Nockels

"I wrote 'No Not One' with Passion worship leader Christy Nockels (formerly of Watermark). I love Christy's voice, and I think she may be Christian music's vocalist-of-the-century. Her voice has always compelled me, and I think our collaboration produced one of the biggest songs on the record. It's a great song to wrap up this album because it's about hope and the realization that we will never know something more perfect, and complete, than the love of Christ. I hope people will always walk away with this truth after spending time with me and my music."

No better word than from your lips
No perfect life than what you lived
No greater gift, no not one

No brighter star has ever shined
No better hope for all mankind
No higher mind, no not one

No one has ever known
This kind of love you've shown

There has never been a greater love
Than your son
No. Not one
And there'll never be a greater love
No, Not one
With his life you have forgiven us
Hope has come
Hope has come
And there will never be a greater love
No, Not one

No image true or sweeter frame
No simple word can match your name
No greater fame
No not one

No one has ever seen
The depth of your majesty

Chorus

No greater call
You gave us all a reason to live
No greater love
You gave us all a reason to give
No greater life
You gave us all a reason to shine
No greater love
Forever mine
